Dear Inga
Dear Inga is an Eastern European comfort food restaurant in the Mission District of San Francisco. We worked closely with the architect to finely detail and meticulously craft their concept for nine custom light fixtures made of new and reclaimed materials.
Boor Projects engaged Medium Small to develop and fabricate custom lighting for Dear Inga. We worked closely with the architect to finely detail and meticulously craft their concept for nine custom light fixtures made of new and existing materials. Our scope included design detailing, computer modeling, and fabrication. All fixtures are comprised of four elements - a maple spine, guanacaste wood slat diffusers salvaged from existing millwork, an LED luminaire, and a stainless steel support structure. The construction was a repetitious labor of love, formally driven by site conditions, to create a dining experience full of warmth and charm.
Dear Inga is a restaurant that specializes in Eastern European comfort food with a menu focused on smoked fish and meats, wood-fire cooking, and fermentation. Operating under the creative direction of Executive Chef David Golovin, the cuisine is focused on these elements while offering a contemporary take on classic Georgian flavors. The cuisine is complimented by a relaxed environment, designed by Boor Projects.
Envisioned as if Inga had moved in and made the space her own, the restaurant features many existing elements from previous tenants, creating a richly layered environment. The space has been energized by colorful patterns, hand-painted ceilings, fine detailing, and warm lighting. Situated on a corner, the restaurant is characterized by a large curvilinear facade, a long bar, open kitchen, and chef’s counter - all to care for eighty guests.
